Thailand 2nd Division Group B

I've just managed to get the Group B for the Thai 2nd Division uploaded to the wiki.

Check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thailand_Division_2_League_Group_B_2008

I'm hoping to get Group A fully up and running and the results for Division One to be completed by next week.

Interestign to see if a 3rd Division is created for next year.

If so, i worry about travel costs, but then i guess it would just be a regional division, but will give these regional sides a sense of direction.

Currently, we can see the top two in both Groups A and B in the Thailand 2nd Division move into the first Division.

From here teams placed from 3rd to 6th in both groups would form a single 2nd division for next season along with the four teams relegated from the Thai 1st Division.

Teams placed 7-11 again in groups A and B in the 2nd Division will form a new 3rd division along with a couple of regional sides.

So, currently the set up is this:

Level One: Thai Premier League
Level 2: Thai 1st Division
Level 3: Thai 2nd Division, Groups A & B

Next season should see the following:

Level One: Thai Premier League
Level 2: Thai 1st Division
Level 3: Thai 2nd Division
Level 4: Thai 3rd Division
Level 5: Regional Leagues

Hopefully this plan, which is really only a rumour at the moment, will take off, and bring in a decent cup compeition for the whole of the country, and FAT may just be onto a good working system for the future

Interesting that some teams at the bottom of the TPL are not playing this week, so a chance to re-group.

Premier League games that seem pretty decent this week is the Chonburi derby between Chonburi and Coke.

In Division One, can we see Sriracha continue there personal march to the TPL? And can Phitsanulok pick up a much needed victory?

In the 2nd Division, Group A sees Satun make the long long journey from the Malay border up to Korat and in Group B we have the battle of the Navy Fleet against the young Air Force trainers.

All results will be posted on here other the weekend, but if you wish to catch them before they are posted then check out the Official FAT website written in Thai script. http://www.fat.or.th/index.php

Use the numbers next to the lower division games to see the scores.

AFC Champions League - Matchday Four Results

Chonburi 2 -2 Chunnma
Nam Dinh 2- 2 Krung Thai Bank

This just about makes it too much now for Chonburi to catch Gamba i feel.

They do play Gamba next, so its a must win, but i can't really see Gamba releasing their 5 point lead.

Altogether though, this is looking like it will be the most succesfull season for Thai clubs in the Champions League, they have amassed 9 points so far between Thai Bnak and Chonburi, with 13 being the previous best way back in 2002-03 when BEC got to the final.

Check the stats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_Clubs_at_The_AFC_Champions_League

Later this week, i will be bringing you the fixtures fot the Premier league, Division 1 and Division 2.

I'm next going to be working on updating the Division 2 league in Wiki, so bit by bit everything is coming together

Singapore Cup 2008

Singapore Cup 2008

Tobacco Monopoly and Bangkok University will fly the flag in the Singapore Cup.

Tobacco will kick off against Gombak United, in a match i feel they can win and Bangkok University will kick off against the Singapore version of the Japanese team Albirex Niigata.

Both teams are in the lower half of the draw so could meet each other at the semi-final stage

Thailand Media Coverage

Thai football has made the English publication World Soccer!

Football in Thailand has finally made my fave footy mag, the May Issue of World Soccer - www.worldsoccer.com

Unfortunatly, its content is just on Thaksin and Human Rights. Why oh why, this World Soccer magazine open up and explore the league in general, along with a host of other Asian Nations?

Although it's great to have a bit of coverage, it would be good to see the league brought to the fore of the general English public whom buy the magazine.

The whole of Asia always seems to find just a couple of pages, but the likes of Malta, might Luxembourg could generate the whole magazine! Why? Because they are Europe.

I hoping for the day, where i can go to my local, buy a pure Asian Football magazine and have a read at my local bar!

I've asked the magazine editor via email, Gavin Hamilton in the past, to include a Asian Cup Preview, to be told they don't do previews, but bizzarly find room for the African Nations Cup and Copa America. They are even happy to put in features of the Greatest Ever Players which is just their opinion, but not ours, but can't be bothered to write an intriuging story about a football league outside of their continent, something along the lines of the crazy world of Indonesian soccer or historical scores in the Asian Champions League, 9-1 here, 9-1 their, 4-2 every where!!

Please someone, make my dream....

KBT Go Bang!

Krung Thai Bank smashed in 9 goals in their latest AFC Champions League match aginst Nam Dinh of Vietnam, a turnaround from when KBT got stuffed 9-1 agianst Kashima Antlers earlier in the compeition.

In winning in style, KBT now become the number one Thai team in the history of the AFC Champions League in its current format.

Chonburi got stuck in South Korea and got beat by Chunnma 1-0.

On the domestic scene, Bangkok Bank beat the hapless Royal Thai Army 2-0. Army are really struggling and are 6 points adrift of the club above.

TPL Matchday 8 Results

Thailand Premier League Matchday 8 Results - 05/04/08

Customs Department 0 - 3 BEC Tero Sasana
Port Authority 0 - 0 Tobacco Monopoly
Chula-Sinthana 1 - 2 Nakhon Pathom

Chonburi 1 – 0 PEA
Samut Songkhram 4 – 0 Royal Thai Army
TOT 0 - 2 Coke Bangpra
Bangkok University 1 - 2 Krung Thai Bank

Wheels seem to be falling off for TOT, 2 defeats in a row now, so they move from first in the league to third, over taken by BEC and Chonburi.

Royal Thai Army get thumped and are really starting to fall behind everyone else now. They have a game mid week against TOT, so hopefully they can make up some ground.

Bangkok Bank are struggling for goals and Chonburi are the only team to stay undefeated.

For the lates league table visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thailand_Premier_League_2008 This site i will also try to keep up dated as and when time allows aong with the help of other Thailand football supporters

Looking for a new national coach??

Comments from national coach Chanvit Phalajivin on the bangkok post website (http://www.bangkokpost.com)would/ appear that we will soon be looking for a new coach after the summer.

Here's his comments:

'People criticise me on the Internet that I did not show spirit by resigning as Thailand's head coach,'' Chanvit said. ''Actually, I told Thai FA secretary-general Ong-arj (Kosinkha) that I wanted to resign but he wanted me to carry on until after the World Cup qualifying round.''

So, he wanted to resign, he nearly did this once before but was encouraged to stay on, now it seems that FAT are maybe interfering too much, especially with the recent appoitment of Peter Withe as a scout (what good that did for the Oman match!)It seems once the nation start performing well, everyone wants to have a say, and know there's too much interference and we could loose a good coach in the process, who could replace him?

There's of course Peter Withe, but please, he's been their before, yes he did well, but lets not go back over old ground.

I'd much rather see a domestic coach take up the reigns.

I'd throw the following current domestic based coaches into the hat: Jadet Meelarp and Gawin Kachendecha.

Jadet currently coaches Chonburi and has taken them from playing in the Pro League to the Premier League, winning the title in the process and showing that he can be tactically dept at playing in the Champions League, i'd be very tempted to throw him in, and i'm sure he's have no fear. He has led Chonburi from a provincial team to a team that could possibly be suggested as the best in South East Asia at this current moment, along with possibly the Armed forces of Singapore.

Gawin Kachendecha coaches the Tobacco Monopoly club, this would be a long shot, but an opportunity not to be missed. He's maybe not won a league title, but he has Tobacco constantly playing in the top 6, the onlt thing that goes against him, is that he isn't a proven winner, but we know he can make up a side and possibly break into the top 10 in Asia (we seem t obe on the fringes but never quite break it).

One last guy i would consider would be the current manager of Japenese club Gamba Osaka, Akira Nishino.

Nishino has been with Gamba since 2002, he's managed to win a few trophies over in Japan and i reckon that one day he could turn out to be Japan's national coach, here i feel, that he he was offered such an opportunity with Thailand, he would probably jump and take it. He has previously coahed the Japanese Under 23's and also coached Kashiwa Reysol, so he's been around a bit and i think he would just simply bring a different attitude to the Thai game.

He could use a backroom staff with the thai guy's i've mentioned earlier to get a good insight, but he might just add something tactically to our game and start getting a few minds thinking, that they can do this and that, etc.

What do you guy's think? Who would be your tip?
